Dr. Peter Chu
Project Lead: Electric Vehicle and Renewalbe Energy Integration

Dr. Chu is currently a project lead at Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at University of California at Los Angeles. He is the system architect and principal engineer at UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center (SMERC), ESmart and Connected Autonomous Electric Vehicle (CAEV) consortium. He is a senior research manager who supervised and steered multiple industry and academia research projects in the field of Smart Grid, Autonomous Electric Vehicle and Renewable Energy Integration, Micro Grid System, Sensor Network, RFID technologies, Mobile Communication, Media Entertainment, 3D/2D Visualization of scientific data and Computer Aided Design. He has over 17 years of experience in research & development of software architectures, frameworks and solutions and has delivered multiple project solutions and software packages to the industry globally.

Dr. Chu is also as a forum convener at the center and he assembled and hosted more than 35 internationally renowned forums and conferences. He leads active research collaboration projects with companies such Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Southern California Edison, California Energy Commission, Siemems, Qualcomm, Motorola, HP, Raytheon, Maersk, Northrop Grumman, Intel. He has 4 patents attributed under his name and published more than 60 papers in professional engineering and scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings. He received one Best Paper Award in Excellence for Applied Research at 2004 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium. He publishes papers focus on Smart Grid, Electrical Vehicle Integration, Micro Grid system, RFID research and was invited to author one chapter in a book - "Mobile, Wireless and Sensor Networks: Technology, Applications and Future Directions" John Wiley publication.

Dr. Chu received his PhD from University of Wisconsin - Madison on 2001 and BS form National Taiwan University on 1990.
