Inaugural UCLA-Tata Global Forum Discusses Future of Sustainable Energy




Hosted by both UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and Mr. Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, the UCLA-Tata Global Forum 'Innovating for a Sustainable Energy Future' brought together policy makers, academic and business leaders for a discussion on the future of sustainability. Sustainable megacities, the integration of solar power into smart energy grids and sustainable biological fuels were some of the topics on the agenda. Among the speakers were Dr. Gururaj Deshpande, president and chairman of Sparta Group LLC and chairman of Tejas Networks, and Smriti Zubin Irani, Indian minister of human resource development who delivered keynote addresses.

SMERC director, Prof. Rajit Gadh, participated in the conference and spoke on the topic of smart grid integration of solar energy, electric vehicles, and energy storage. Gadh stated, "What we are learning about the reduction of greenhouse gases in Los Angeles has potential applicability to New Delhi."
