UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center (SMERC)
Industry Partnership Program
You may be aware that UCLA is part of a team that has received a DOE-funded 5-year Smart Grid Demo Grant. Some of the public news about this grant is as follows:
- UCLA MAE (Dec 8, 2009): LADWP $60M grant has UCLA participation
- UCLA Today (Jan 14, 2010):Building the 'Smart Grid'
- The Daily Bruin (Feb 12, 2010): Smart Grid technology saves money, energy by using sensors in buildings, battery power from electric cars
For the above Smart Grid project, SMERC is creating a living lab within UCLA. This living lab will contain a number of demonstrable technologies. The living lab will become a showcase for state-of-the-art technologies, research concepts and technical demonstrations. SMERC is inviting for industry partners who would be willing to contribute their expertise, technology (including equipment or software), training/services or grant as contribution towards the project with measurable value. We would then use this contribution towards the development of demonstrations within the UCLA campus’ living lab.
We believe that there would be potential benefits to the industry partners including having their capability as part of our DOE-funded demo grant, educating students about their company, being part of an ecosystem of leading players in the country, and finally getting their technology exposed to the utilities by way of the UCLA Smart Grid demo.
Since SMERC is now in the process of putting together the detailed demonstration plans for this DOE-funded grant for the UCLA campus, we are getting ready to identify technology partners.
For such a contribution, we would need a letter (sample letter is available) - this letter can be changed as one sees fit depending upon the company and its business type (hardware/software/service/web-service/education/training).
Please let us know if your organization would be interested in participating as an external industrial partner. Our staff can set up a teleconference to discuss this further should you be interested.
Interested companies should submit their information to UCLA SMERC via our registration page.
