Alan Westenskow
Director of Business Development, Proterra Inc.

Alan Westenskow is the Director of Business Development for Proterra where he identifies and develops financing options and procurement solutions for Proterra electric buses. Prior to Proterra, Alan spent 16 years as a public finance municipal advisor providing financing solutions to local governments for energy, transportation and other public infrastructure projects. Alan received the 2017 Finance for Resilience award at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Global Summit for developing Proterra’s battery lease model. He received his B.A. from Brigham Young University and his M.B.A. from Wharton.

Amy Lilly
State Regulatory Principal Specialist, Mercedes-Benz Research & Development N.A., Inc.

Amy Lilly currently represents Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) in Sacramento as a State Regulatory Principal Specialist. In Amy’s role, she focuses on zero emission vehicle (ZEV) regulatory developments and advocates for MBRDNA in regards to greenhouse gas (GHG) and criteria pollutant regulations, smart transportation planning for ZEV infrastructure, and consumer outreach.

Amy formerly advocated on a variety of environmental regulatory issues for the Hyundai-Kia Technical Center in MI and American Honda in Washington, DC. Amy also was the Director of Manufacturing Operations at Global Automakers (formerly the Association of International Automobile Manufactures). Amy earned a BS in Geology from Bucknell University and an MS in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College (formally the School of Urban and Public Affairs).

Angelina Galiteva
Board of Governors, California ISO

Ms. Galiteva works to structure and advance the implementation of cutting edge energy policies that reflect the increasing role of renewable energy, storage, energy efficiency, electric mobility and distributed energy technologies worldwide. Ms. Galiteva is currently serving a third term on the Board of the California Independent System Operator Corporation. She is the founder and Chair of the Board for the Renewables 100 Policy Institute and also serves as a Renewable Energy Expert Speaker for the US Department of State. Angelina been sent on numerous missions around the world in this expert capacity.

Ms. Galiteva’s industry experience spans from serving as a Principal at NEOptions, Inc., a renewable energy and new technology product design firm to the utility sector where she worked as the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as well as the New York Power Authority. Ms. Galiteva is an attorney and holds a J.D. and LLM Degrees, specializing in Environmental and Energy Law.

Austin Heyworth
Public Affairs Manager, Uber

Austin Heyworth is Senior Manager of Public Affairs in California for Uber Technologies, the global technology company enabling mobility services in more than 65 countries. At Uber, he has represented the company on state policy and regulatory issues, and worked on autonomous vehicles, electric vehicle programs, and the transition to a multi-modal platform including the launch of JUMP bikes and scooters. Before Uber, he worked in the State Assembly for six years, as a Special Assistant to Assembly Speaker John A. Perez, and most recently for Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin. He graduated from the University of California, Davis with degrees in Economics and Political Science and played quarterback on the football team.

Austin Heyworth

Bernard Soriano
Deputy Director, California Department of Motor Vehicles

Bernard C. Soriano is a Deputy Director for the California Department of Motor Vehicles and is in charge of the department's autonomous vehicles program. He has over 30 years of engineering and management experience in the private and public sector. He previously held engineering and management positions at Hughes Space and Communications, where he designed attitude control systems for commercial and military satellites and was involved in their launch missions. He was also the Assistant Technical Director at the USGA Research and Test Center in New Jersey. In the public sector, Bernard was the Chief Information Officer for the Office of the Secretary of State and was the information technology task force leader on Governor Schwarzenegger's California Performance Review.

Bernard was also a member of the part-time faculty at the California State University, Sacramento, where he taught courses in the College of Engineering and the College of Business Administration.

Bernard holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from U.C. Irvine, a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a B.S. in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from U.C. Davis. He also holds an M.B.A. from California State University, Sacramento. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve and has numerous publications and patents. His honors and achievements include selection as a finalist in the NASA astronaut program.

Brittany Syz
Director of Clean Transportation, San Diego Gas & Electric

Brittany Syz is Director of Clean Transportation (CT) at San Diego Gas & Electric, managing SDG&E's transportation electrification strategy and programs. She and her team are responsible for electric vehicle adoption in SDG&E's territory, which assists with the State of California's goals for GHG reduction.

Prior to this position, Brittany was Senior Counsel of Real Estate at SDG&E and she previously worked as General Counsel and VP of Business Development at Oberon Fuels, an alternative fuels producer.

Dakota Semler
Founder and CEO, XOS Trucks

Dakota Semler is the co-founder and CEO of XOS, Inc. His passion for the clean fuels and experience in Fleet Operations established the founding vision for XOS, Inc. Dakota's business and leadership aptitude have been realized through successful ventures in hospitality, real estate, and tour operations. Dakota's vision for XOS, Inc. is to create battery-electric commercial vehicles that achieve performance benchmarks of an existing diesel, accomplish higher levels of reliability, and are commercially viable without public subsidization. This vision has led XOS, Inc. to building and launching its first fully-electric class-8 semi-truck prototype, the ET-One, in December 2017. The ET-One will enter into production in 2019 along with XOS's medium duty class 6 delivery vehicles. Dakota concurrently serves as CEO and founder of Malibu Wines Safari.

Fisker is a risk taking, in novation loving, protocol challenging designer and entrepreneur who turns dreams into reality, and never gives up. The Fisker Karma was the world's first premium plug - in hybrid, launched in 2011, where Henrik demonstrated his creative genius in creating, for the first time, an electric vehicle with stunning proportions integrated with sustainable innovations such as a full - length solar roof, vegan interior, and adjustable regenerative breaking. Henrik was in charge of the BMW Z8 sports car – with James Bond at the wheel in the 1999 blockbuster film, The World Is Not Enough. Celebrated as a true iconic figure in the industry, Fisker was behind some of the most emotionally appealing vehicles ever created. As president and chief executive officer of BMW Designworks USA, his creation of the BMW Z07 concept and the Z8 Roadster took the globe by storm, while his stints at Aston Martin as board member and design director resulted in the turn around of Aston Martin through the famed DB9/V8 Vantage.

American by nationality and Danish by birth, Fisker's many past and present global entrepreneurial endeavors are headlined by his current role as the Chairman and CEO of Fisker Inc. – founded in 2016 as his second automotive company. Most recently, Fisker has joined the board of directors of a cobalt mining exploration company, First Cobalt Corp, to reinforce ethical and sustainable cobalt mining practices for battery production. Jenny Elfsberg
Director Innovation Lab Hub, US Volvo Group

Jenny Elfsberg, Director Innovation Lab Hub US, is heading up “hub335” in Mountain View. In her previous position she was Director of Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) Emerging Technologies organization since May 2009. Jenny and her global team of 20 research engineers worked to build knowledge and shape the future of the construction industry. Jenny has also created a framework and a network with the mission to secure Volvo CE’s innovative capability.

The purpose with hub335 is to become an immersed part of the Silicon Valley ecosystem and create value for users, customers and society in an accelerated manner. Starting out at Volvo Powertrain as an Application Engineer and Leader, Jenny has worked for the Volvo Group for 20 years. During this time, she has held a variety of senior positions. Prior to above mentioned roles, she was Manager of Engine Performance Development team and before that, she was a Chief Project Manager working in components development.

Married with two children, Jenny is a Swedish national and fluent in Swedish and English. She holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Linköping Technical University in Sweden and a Licentiate of Engineering degree in Innovation Engineering from Blekinge Technical University in Sweden. Outside of work, Jenny enjoys most sorts of outdoor activities, learning new things, reading and spending time with family.

Lori Pepper
Deputy Secretary for Innovative Mobility Solutions, California State Transportation Agency

Lori Pepper was appointed the Deputy Secretary for Innovative Mobility Solutions by Governor Newsom in August 2019. Prior to her appointment, Lori worked in Washington, DC as the Senior Federal Policy Specialist for Honda North America, Inc. where her portfolio focused on technology and innovation. This included connected and automated vehicles, robotics and artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and spectrum issues.

Lori also served on Capitol Hill for 10 years in various capacities. She started her career as a Legislative Assistant in the office of former Rep. Albert Wynn (MD) and then became Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for former Rep. Baron Hill (IN) where she successfully led the office’s efforts to raise federal fuel efficiency standards included in the Energy Independence &anp; Security Act. Lori also served on the Science and Technology Committee as Director of Policy &anp; Outreach under former Chairman Bart Gordon (TN) where she helped shepherd the reauthorization of the America COMPETES Act. For her final two years on Capitol Hill, Lori served as a Policy Advisor and Deputy Floor Director for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) where she was the Speaker’s advisor on issues related to small business, agriculture, and veterans, as well as her liaison to the moderate Blue Dog Coalition.

Lori started her career in her home state of Maryland as a Legislative Assistant for former State Delegate Paul Carlson.

Assistant General Manager, Pasadena Water and Power

Marvin D. Moon comes to Pasadena Water and Power after 35 years of service at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). He is responsible for all aspects of power delivery including distribution and transmission, engineering, substation and power dispatch. He is also Pasadena Water & Power's Electric Vehicle Program’s supporting management sponsor and a long-time advocate for electric transportation.

Marvin Moon

Michael Boehm
Managing Director, Advanced Sustainability Institute

Founder of the Advanced Sustainability Institute, dedicated to thought leadership, demonstration, and entrepreneurship in new energy and cleantech, Mr. Boehm is an entrepreneur, consultant and educator in the sustainability space. He serves as Executive Director for the Advanced Transportation Center, Industry Liaison for UCLA's Smartgrid Energy Research Center, and consultant to its EVSE spin off MOEV, and has assisted AeroVironment, Trexa, LADWP, GenOn, LAANE, SaveMe, Sempra and Toyota in their new energy and Electric Vehicle endeavors. He also served as CEO of Solar Energy Development International - an early developer of solar concentrator technology. Mr. Boehm is the Executive Director of the E4 Advanced Transportation Center, coordinating regional efforts toward developing a cleantech industry sector. Educated at Northwestern University and Stanford Graduate School of Business, Michael has taught sustainability in programs at Darden School of Business, UCLA, and the University of santa Clara. Mr. Boehm serves as board member and chairman of the German American Business Association, Southern California, CleanTech and Sustainability Industry Group, co-chair of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation E4-Mobility Alliance, and is an advisor to LA's Clean Tech incubator.

Michelle Bogen
Advanced Technology Engineer, BMW Group Technology Office

Michelle Bogen is Manager of the Advanced Powertrain Team at the BMW Group Technology Office USA in Mountain View, California. In her role, she oversees powertrain research and development activities and facilitates knowledge transfer between the BMW Technology Office and BMW’s Munich headquarters. In addition to overseeing the team’s R&D activities, Ms. Bogen focuses her research time on implementing innovative stationary energy storage projects and supporting the integration of distributed energy resources with the electricity grid through BMW’s managed charging pilot program, BMW ChargeForward. Previously, Ms. Bogen worked at the Center for Sustainable Energy, researching second-life batteries, managing a vehicle-grid integration project and supporting the Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). Ms. Bogen graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering.

Mike Gravely
Deputy Division Chief of the Energy Research and Development Division, California Energy Commission

Mike Gravely is the Team Leader for Energy Technology Systems Integration for the Energy Research and Development Division at the California Energy Commission. In this role, he oversees the full spectrum of research activities to improve the California Electric Grid including: implementing the California Smart Grid, assessing future energy storage needs for California, assessing the capability and value of emerging energy storage technologies, determining the benefit and value of microgrids and distributed energy resources, addressing the grid related issues associated with integrating higher concentrations of renewables, evaluating new advanced generation systems, expanding demand response solutions for California, and addressing natural gas infrastructure safety and reliability. His team is managing over $250 million in microgrid and energy storage research and demonstration projects. Currently, his team is overseeing over 30 active field projects that include new and emerging energy storage technologies. One are of specific attention is the demonstrations and evaluation of non-lithium Ion technologies and what can be done to expand the field of commercially available energy storage technologies. Additionally, his team is overseeing 20 active microgrid grants that represents the most diverse, complex and capable microgrids in the country. No other agency or organization is researching the capability and value of microgrids for public good and in a full open and visible process like the Energy Commission.

In his over 15 years at the California Energy Commission, he has held key roles as a scientist, supervisor, office manager, deputy division chief and senior engineer/team leader addressing the wide range of energy issues facing California and the Nation. Over his years with the Commission, he has worked on addressing the challenges facing the electric grid as California transitions to a new world of higher and higher concentration of renewables. He has also worked actively with the government offices of the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Department of Transportation and other state energy offices such as New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Washington to share information and develop partnerships. He has had the pleasure of overseeing hundreds of research grants to move energy technologies from the laboratory to the field and eventually to commercial success.

Mike has over 30 years of engineering and integration experience in the energy, aerospace and communications fields. Prior to the Energy Commission, Mike served in executive positions in the Federal Government and private industry including managing research, testing and fielding of distributed generation and energy storage systems for the Department of Defense, addressing the business challenges of a startup energy storage company and overseeing a staffing and training company that specialized in serving the utility industry. Mike Gravely has a BSEE from the Virginia Military Institute and an MSEE from California State University at Sacramento.

Noel Crisostomo
Air Pollution Specialist, California Energy Commission

Noel Crisostomo is an Air Pollution Specialist leading the design of transportation electrification policy at the California Energy Commission. In this role, his efforts aim to improve coordination between charging infrastructure regulations, grid integration technology analysis, incentives, and forecasting. Previously, Noel was a regulatory analyst at the California Public Utilities Commission, where he oversaw the investor-owned utilities' development of electric vehicle programs including dynamic rates, charging infrastructure installation, the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and demonstrations leveraging electric vehicles as grid resources. Noel has previous experience at Rocky Mountain Institute, San Diego Gas & Electric, and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Earth Systems from Stanford University.

Director, UCLA Connected Autonomous Electric Vehicle (CAEV), Smart Grid Energy Research Center (SMERC), Energy for a Smart Grid Consortium (ESmart)

Dr. Rajit Gadh is a Professor at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at UCLA, and the Founding Director of the *UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center* or *SMERC*. He is also Founder and Director of the *Connected and Autonomous Electric Vehicle* or *CAEV*.

Dr. Gadh's research interests include Smart Grid, Electric Vehicles (EV), EV-Grid Integration, Renewable-integration, Distributed Energy Resources, Autonomous Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, Wireless sensors and RFID, and IOT, . He has over 200 papers in journals, conferences and technical magazines, and several patents granted.

He has a Doctorate degree from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), a Masters from Cornell University and a Bachelor's degree from IIT Kanpur. He has taught as a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley, has been an Assistant, Associate and Full Professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and did his sabbatical as a visiting researcher at Stanford University for a year. He has won several awards from NSF (CAREER award, Research Initiation Award, NSF-Lucent Industry Ecology Award, GOAL-I award), SAE (Ralph Teetor award), IEEE (second best student-paper, WTS), ASME (Kodak Best Technical Paper award), AT&T (Industrial ecology fellow award), Engineering Education Foundation (Research Initiation Award), William Wong Fellowship award from University of Hong-Kong, etc., and other accolades in his career. He is on the Editorial board of ACM Computers in Entertainment Publication and the CAD Journal.

Rey Gonzalez
Senior Mechanical Engineer of Energy Research and Development Division, California Energy Commission

Rey Gonzalez is a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Energy Research and Development Division at the California Energy Commission. He is the staff lead for the Transportation Research, and oversees the research and development to advance state-of-the-art technologies and scientific approaches that reduce petroleum consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants from the State's transportation sector. He and his team are leading a research effort to develop and demonstrate the efficient and grid-friendly integration of plug-in electric vehicles into the power grid through networked, smart charging, grid-services, and bidirectional power flow strategies.

Rey holds a degree in engineering, and has over 30 years of engineering experience variety of applications including transportation research, test & manufacturing, and aerospace fields.

Senior Vice President and President, BYD Company Limited and BYD Motors Inc.

Stella Li is Senior Vice President of BYD Company Limited and President of BYD Motors Inc. She is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning for BYD's North American and Latin American operations. Under Stella's leadership, BYD has achieved exponential international market growth and became a dominant global force in clean technology and consumer electronics.

BYD Motors Inc. is an American manufacturing company and a wholly owned subsidiary of BYD Company Ltd, a global technology company with over $15B in revenue annually and over 220,000 employees across the globe. BYD was founded in 1995 as a battery manufacturer and advanced consumer electronics company. In 2003, BYD entered the automotive market and began to apply its battery expertise to the challenge of transportation, becoming the largest domestic car manufacturer in China. BYD's unique combination of battery and automotive experience is now revolutionizing every aspect of clean transportation, with a product line of 100% electric buses, trucks, forklifts, passenger vehicles, and monorail systems. BYD's clean energy division also produces energy storage systems, solar panels, and LED lights.

Stella successfully launched BYD's cutting-edge technology products into markets across the globe. In September 1996, Stella joined BYD as a Marketing Manager. She established the first overseas office in Hong Kong in 1997, the European headquarters in Amsterdam in 1999, and the North American headquarters for batteries and consumer electronics in Chicago in 2000. In 2002, she helped develop the partnership between BYD and Motorola, providing the latter with mobile phone batteries and a wide range of components and parts. As the architect of BYD's thriving expansions in the Americas, Stella established the company's North American clean energy and transportation headquarters in Los Angeles in 2011 and its manufacturing in 2013 for electric buses, trucks, and energy modules in Los Angeles County.

Stella earned her B.A. in Statistics from Fudan University - one of the top 5 universities in China and among the most selective institutions of higher learning in the world. She was appointed as Vice President of BYD Company Limited in 2002 and Senior Vice President in 2006. Since 2007, she has focused on BYD's business development throughout the Americas.

Vibhu Kaushik
Director of Grid Technology and Modernization, Southern California Edison

As the Director of Grid Technology and Modernization at SCE, Vibhu leads SCE’s strategic roadmap for grid modernization, and serves as SCE’s leader in applied research and grid modernization, leading industry groups and external stakeholders on industry initiatives, research activities, standards and cooperative projects. He also leads SCE’s technical efforts in deployment of emerging technologies including key integrated pilot demonstration projects.

Previously, Vibhu held several roles within SCE including Principal Manager of Asset Management and Generation Strategy group; also, as Principal Manager for Resource Planning & Optimization.Vibhu earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from University of Manitoba, Canada. He is also a registered professional engineer. He is currently pursuing an executive MBA from UCLA Anderson.

Waqar Hashim
Vehicle Line Executive and Vice President of Global Program Management, Faraday Future

Waqar Hashim is the Vehicle Line Executive and Vice President of Global program management at Faraday Future. Prior to joining Faraday in 2018, he worked at General Motors as the Chief Engineer of the new Chevrolet Blazer and Holden Acadia. He has held various global roles in engineering and development at GM during a career that spanned 24 years including over 10 years in developing light weight body structures. Prior to working for GM, he was a research student at NASA’s Engine Research Lab in Cleveland, Ohio, working on improving the efficiency of Stirling Cycle Engines. Waqar is a Mechanical Engineer with an MS Degree in Engineering as well as an MBA degree. He is the author of several technical papers and holds three patents on mechanism design.

He has been following the evolution of the global automotive business for many years and moved to California in 2018 to be in midst of all the technological evolution related to Electric and Autonomous Vehicles.
