On June 6, 2015, SMERC hosted a delegation from Vietnam's construction sector that included that nation's Ministry of Construction, International Cooperation Dept. - Director General Phạm Khánh Toàn, Ministry of Construction, Department of Science, Technology, and Environment - Director General Dr. Nguyen Trung Hoa, and the Hanoi Department of Construction, Management Unit for Investment Projects on the Urban Infrastructure Construction - Director Nguyen Hoang Truong. The delegation discussed smart grid technology with SMERC Principal Investigator Dr. Rajit Gadh, and then toured the research center's laboratory. The delegation's sponsors were the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) along with the Alliance to Save Energy (ase.org) and UCLA Capital Programs.
