Rachel Sheinberg
PhD candidate
Rachel Sheinberg received her B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Brown University in 2019. She is now a student in the Institute of Environment and Sustainability (IoES) PhD program and a member of the SMERC lab. Rachel is interested in exploring the intersection of engineering and policy for an equitable clean energy transition, specifically renewable energy and vehicle-grid integration solutions.
Rafi Zahedi
PhD candidate
Rafi Zahedi received his B.S. degree from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2016, and defended his M.S thesis in the same university in 2019, both in Power Engineering. He then spent 3 years in the industry. He is currently a Ph.D. student in SMERC with research interests in Renewable Integration, EV Fleet Management, and Vehicle to Grid.
Toby Tao
PhD candidate
Toby Tao received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 2020. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA. His research interests focus on electric vehicles, smart grids, and renewable energy integration.
Yaoyu Fan
PhD candidate
Yaoyu Fan received the B.S. degree in Optical Science from Delaware State University
in 2020 and the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University
of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2022. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of
Mechanical Engineering at UCLA. His research interests include reinforcement learning,
smart grid technologies, power system modeling, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, and
battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Zhaoyi Ye
PhD candidate
Zhaoyi Ye received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2022 from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2024. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UCLA. His research interests focus on electric vehicles, power electronics and control algorithm.
Hyeonjong Kim
PhD candidate
Hyeonjong Kim recieved his B.E and M.E in Mechanical Engineering from Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Busan, Republic of Korea in 2021 and 2023. His currently research focus is introduction of heavy duty electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Southern California region with various research method such as multi criteria decision analysis and multi agent simulation.
